Colin Roarty and Dante Romano, eighth graders at Poland Middle School, both earned the title of County Champion at the 102nd Mahoning County Middle School Track and Field Championship held at the PSHS stadium on May 19.
Colin Roarty posted the fastest time in the county with 16.87 while blazing to a sizeable lead and victory in the 110-meter hurdles for boys. Dante Romano posted the best time with 28.01 while winning a more tightly contested race in the 200-meter hurdles.
Roarty and Romano also were members of Poland's 4 x 400 relay team which finished second with a time of 3:37, just narrowly losing the final event of the meet. Roarty also added to Poland's team points with a third-place finish in the 400-meter run.

The 102nd Mahoning County Middle School Championship Meet had 15 teams competing in two divisions of boys and girls track and field events. Although the Poland Middle School had only had two individual champions, Roarty and Romano, both the boys and girls teams had multiple high placing individual and team performances. The Poland boys fared well and placed third overall with 81 points, and the girls finished with a respectable fifth-place total of 41 points.
