Troop 25, Boy Scouts of America chartered to Canfield United Methodist Church, announced the awarding of its 171st Eagle Scout award to Ben Boughner. His Eagle Scout award will be presented at a special Eagle Scout Court of Honor at 7:45 p.m. May 1 in the church, 27 S. Broad St.
Ben, 17, is the son of Don and Pam Boughner of Canfield. He started his scouting career with Pack 25 and after five years moved into Troop 25 where he attained the Arrow of Light award. Ben currently holds the position of quartermaster with the troop and he has served as scribe, historian, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, patrol leader, and assistant patrol leader.
Ben has earned 26 merit badges over the years as well as special scouting awards like the 5th year Camp Seven Ranges Pipestone Award, 1st year Camp McKinley Heritage Award, and the Order of the ANT, Bob Roberts Memorial Backpatch Award. He has taken part in a 50-mile canoe trip as well as a Gettysburg Historical Hike.

For his Eagle project, Ben planned, organized and carried out the repair of the playground area behind the Canfield Presbyterian Church, and he designed and built two miniature picnic tables for the church with assistance from his troop and family.
Ben is a junior at Canfield High School, where he is in band. He attends church at St. Christine's Parish in Youngstown.
