Rotarian and Austintown Superintendent Vince Colaluca recently introduced Dr. Connie Hathorn, supintendent of Youngstown City Schools, for a second visit to the Rotary Club of Austintown. Hathorn gave an update on the district's successes since he came on board in January 2011. He said he grew up in the South when civil rights battles were a big problem. He attributed the system's improved state rating to lots of changes he has instituted, and more are coming, he said. The system now offers free lunch and breakfast to all students to eliminate the problem of hungry children. They are also liberal with busing because of concerned parents who often leave for charter schools. 'Real student progress come when we all pull together -- in the same direction,' Hathorn said. He is pictured here with Rotary President-elect Mark Cole.
