Lions support diabetes walk

October 31, 2012
Special to the Town Crier

Members of the Boardman Lions Club turned out at the Canfield Fairgrounds Sunday, Oct. 21, to work at the Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes, an event sponsored by the American Diabetes Association.

The pairing is a natural one, since eye care issues are a central part of the Lions' mission. There are eyeglass drop-off sites in Boardman at Boardman Center Middle School, Boardman Public Library, Boardman United Methodist Church, Eye Care Associates, Sam's Club, Spectacle Spot, and Walmart.

With diabetes, increased sugar in diabetic patients can damage the tiny blood vessels in the retina, leading to loss of vision or even blindness.
