The students in Terry Dance’s Family and Consumer Science class at Canfield High School were having difficulties last week as they struggled with simple tasks. They were outfitted with devices to simulate the problems that many elderly face on a daily basis. The program was presented by Canfield entrepreneur Tim Chesney.

Talented students perform for packed house

Fifth-graders at Poland McKinley got their moment in the spotlight on Feb. 26 as the school played host to a special hour of talent that ranged from classical piano and violin to rock and impersonations. The event is held each February after some lengthy auditions.

“All these students auditioned to be a part of this event,” said McKinley Principal Ed Kempers.

Road race closes park streets this weekend

The Distance Classic (aka The Half-Marathon) will be held on Mill Creek MetroParks drives, Sunday, March 7, with an anticipated 600 runners participating.

Several park drives will be closed for this event from approximately 7:30 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m.

Golden Eagle honoree to speak

This year marks the 100th year anniversary for the Boy Scouts of America and Golden Eagle honorees John Wolboldt and Judge Theresa Dellick, along with Eagle Scouts James Evans and William Wainio, will speak at the March 9 Celebrate Scouting fundraiser breakfast. The public is invited to reserve a seat by calling 330-774-5160 or to make their pledge by phone.
