CREATE A NEW TOPICTax levies
Posts: 0 Category: Community Message Boards
Looks like November is going to have its share of new taxes in communities within Mahoning County. From townships to school boards, it seems everyone is after what little money is left, if any. How much more can local property owners take before the bank is broke? view post
Oil Spill in Gulf
Posts: 0 Category: Community Message Boards
Is anyone else concerned about the Gulf oil problem? Hurricane predictions are calling for a bad year and all it will take is one good blast to drive that toxic oil inland. Makes one glad to live in Ohio, but even us Buckeyes remember when the Cuyahoga River was on fire from man's polluting ways. As for our new crisis, I think it is time to tell the greedy big wigs "no more drilling in the gulf" period. It's not worth it. If it is about profit, then maybe BP should be focusing on getting out of the oil market and get into some green technology. This whole thing has come down to a battle between environment and currency. I say, you can always print more money, but you can't make another Earth. view post
Wedgewood Park
Posts: 4 Category: Community Message Boards
In 2004, Caroline Senedak and her neighbors, friends, and their family members surrounding Wedgewood Park formed Friends of Wedgewood Park. Their mission was to eliminate the crime and blight that had come to the green space over the years since the park was turned over to the township. In 2008, the multi-phase plan restored the park thanks to the efforts of many township volunteers and corporate partners. Unfortunately, it seems as if the township parks department and police forces have given this community success story low priority. This neglect by these departments has allowed vandalism and loitering by restless adolescents to return. If the township continues to ignore the park, how soon will it be before gangs, crime, and drug dealing return to the neighborhood? We demand that the township give this community success story more attention in order to preserve the neighborhood's character and make-up. view post
Healthcare
Posts: 1 Category: Community Message Boards
Why is it that healthcare has become such a battlefront in politics? Let's take a good long look at what is going on here. Health insurance costs almost triple the rise in inflation. Drug companies making a fortune while keeping the cost of medicine so redundantly high. And who is getting blamed? Those who don't have insurance because they can't afford it. I know of a family who had the choice of moving out of their lifelong home into a slum neighborhood, or dropping their high insurance so they could make ends meet. When it comes down to Americans leaving their family homes because the insurance companies and drug companies are being controlled properly, then the focus needs to be on those entities. Maybe we do need government control when big corporations are OUT OF CONTROL. view post

It just seems whever a child is suffering somewhere in the world, Kathy Price from the Mission of Love not only hears the cry, but like Superman, she rushes to help. She just arrives home from Guatemala and is immediately preparing shipments to Haiti. She is an amazing woman that should serve as a perfect roll model for what we all should be like. God bless you Kathy. view post

boys made comments after the game that they could have done better that so-and-so in the A game and maybe you should have given them a chance since your select 12 were not getting the job done. Remember, instilling confidence in these boys, and that should mean all of them, is the main objective as stated by your organization not just winning games. view post

sitting on the bench. If that is how they are going to instill confidence in these boys by showing them that even when your teammates are not doing their job they will still play and you will sit the bench does not sound like a great idea to me. Then we went to the "B" game and I saw an unbelievable site. The select 11 (as one of the 12 plays on the B team) removed their helmets and pads as to say we are more important than you guys so we don't have to stay dressed. These 15 boys on the "B" team had to stay in complete uniform while the select 12 played their game so why did they not have to stayed in complete uniform while the other boys got to show what they can do. There were some terrific plays made by the "bench boys" in this B game. There is a lot of talent out there but these coaches are only focusing on the select 12. Open your eyes coaches and start looking at the talent you have in the other 15 boys you have sit the bench. These boys m view post

As an avid fan of the Austintown Little Falcons and a friend of one of the players mothers I had the opportunity to attend a scrimmage game and then the opening game on Sunday Aug. 23 of the ALF 95# team. When the practice season started the league handed out letters to the parents that the main objective of the league was to instill confidence in each and every one of the fine young boys. Winning was not the top priority but giving these boy a start a believing in themselves was. Well i guess that looked good on paper because it sure was not the case as I was watching these 2 games. There were a select 12 players that played the whole 4 quarters in both games. They played offense and defense. Now I find it hard to believe that not one of these 15 boys sitting on the bench were not capable of playing in the "A" game. In the game on Sunday Aug 23 the top 12 were not playing that well. They kept fumbling and missing tackles yet these 12 were not replaced by any player view post
health care

Health care in this country would be top notch if we could eliminate one thing: greed. From hospitals performing uneeded tests just to fill their pockets to the worse violators-private insurance companies. Insurance premiums have soared in past years and that affects the individuals as well as the companies they work for. Stop the greed and do it right! view post

I remember the days when "the milkman" delivered milk in glass, sealed bottles, right to the home on a weekly basis. Sanitizing the bottles was part of the dairy business, reusing them over and over. Perhaps we should revisit that time and consider the fact that it costs a lot less and has far less environmental impact to use a re-usable container for our milk supply. It just makes sense. view post
