The Canfield Village Middle School (CVMS) drama students are rehearsing hard as they prepare to hit the stage this month with "The Sound of Music." The presentation will include a different way of changing scenes.

"We will be using digital backgrounds," said drama teacher Jennifer Kuczek. "We just don't have the room to store a lot of items for big set changes."

She said using the digital backgrounds, the scenes can be changed quickly and smoothly. The version the drama students will be performing is also a little different from the original.

The Von Trapp family (from the Sound of Music) pose on the CVMS stage Friday during a dress rehearsal for “The Sound of Music.” The family members are: Addison Hanousek as Maria, the Von Trapp children Aubrey Vernon, Emma Drombetta, Allyson Vernon, Travis Mills, Gia Noble, Georgie Zordich, and Cadence Richley, and Sam Wogan as Capt. Von Trapp.

The original "The Sound of Music" has a run time of around 2 hours and 55 minutes. The version that will be performed at CVMS is "Getting to Know The Sound of Music" which condenses the story line down to 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Kuczek said there are about 50 kids involved between the actors and the stage hands.

The performance will take place on March 13-14 at 7:30 p.m. and March 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and senior citizens and $8 for students with all the proceeds going back into the drama program at CVMS. Doors open at CVMS 30 minutes prior to curtain and concessions are available at the performance.
