West Boulevard Elementary School teachers and staff are thrilled to hear that the Ohio Department of Education has nominated West for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award. West is one of only 14 Ohio Schools nominated this year. West was a National Blue Ribbon winner in 2011, so this is the second time West has been nominated.

The ODE nomination is based on student achievement as rated by the 2018-19 Ohio School Report Card accountability measures. West Boulevard staff members are in the process of compiling all the required application materials to send to the US Department of Education. The National Award winners will be notified in the Fall.

Al Cervello has been Principal at West for the last 16 years, and he prides his students and staff, and parents who are so supportive.

"This is truly a community effort," said Cervello. "West continues to grow and change based on our students' needs, and this nomination validates our sustained effort, teamwork, talent, and dedication. It is a rare honor for any school to be nominated twice, and a second win would be a tremendous accomplishment!" said Cervello.

According to the Federal Department of Education, National Blue Ribbon Schools are public and non-public elementary, middle and high schools that are producing outstanding results for all students. They have demonstrated consistent excellence and made progress in closing achievement gaps for all students. West Boulevard Elementary was nominated as an Exemplary High Performing School.

"While we hope to be awarded as a National Blue Ribbon School in the Fall, we are really honored and excited to stand out in the state of Ohio, as one of only 14 nominations," said Cervello.
