Trustees discuss vacant Fairway property

December 4, 2019
J.T. Whitehouse , The Town Crier

Trustees spent some time discussing a vacant property, pool and house located at 4055 Fairway Drive at the Nov. 26 meeting. Estimates were obtained regarding the removal of an inground pool.

According to Township Administrator Keith Rogers, the Board of Health has already declared the swimming pool a nuisance. Rogers went out and got estimates on what it would take to drain and remove the pool.

"The price to haul away the water and take it to a treatment facility would run $5,000," he said "It would run up to $5,500 to remove the pool.

Trustee Brian Governor asked if the township could go onto private property and remove the pool.

"We need the county prosecutor's guidance on this," said Trustee Marie Cartwright.

Besides the pool, the house on the property has fallen into disrepair. Rogers said the house and property was vacated for over nine years. He said the fire district is working to declare the structure unsafe, which would allow for it to be taken down. At the very least, Rogers said once the fire inspector makes that designation, the township can at least go in and board it up.

In other business:

Trustees approved warrants and electronic payments totaling $53,757.75, and a purchase order and blanket certificate totaling $1,831.26.

Repair and Maintenance Fund to cover the repairs to the brakes on the township's backhoe. The repair will cost $3,229.48 and Lynn Welding and Mechanical Service in Canfield was approved to do the work.

Trustees were informed by Fiscal Officer Carmen Heasley that they have until Feb. 1 to speak on any issues they may have with any liquor license holder.

The annual Lighting of the Village Green will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Township Hall will be used for Santa.

The next Township meeting was set for Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at Township Hall.
