School District prepares for auction

September 25, 2019
J.T. Whitehouse , The Town Crier

At Monday evening's Boardman Board of Education meeting, Treasurer Nicholas Ciarniello said everything was moving along for an upcoming auction. Former Market Street Elementary School furniture and equipment will soon be up for bid.

"They are taking photos tomorrow (Sept. 24) and the auction should be ready soon," Ciarniello said.

He told board members Bus Movers LLC was in charge of the auction. They take photos and put the items on their on-line public auction web site and try to get top dollar.

Ciarniello said there is a lot of furniture from Market that was excess, but there is also a couple of nice lawnmowers in this auction.

While the sale of excess items from Market was part of Boardman's inter-district moving that took place over the summer, another segment of the moves were highlighted by Superintendent Tim Saxton.

"I just want to congratulate the custodial staff in moving the board office to the high school," he said.

Several custodians were in the audience and were introduced and thanked for their role in making such a big move and still meeting the opening day of school. That move included a remodel of Center to accommodate the fourth grade.

To showcase what was done over the summer, Saxton showed a brief video of the crews at work in each school.

"There are a lot of moving parts in this school district and maintenance is one of them," said Board President Jeffrey Barone. "They did a good job."

In other business:

The Board approved a shared services agreement with South Range to educate one of their students. Saxton said since Boardman took over the intervention center, it has allowed the district to enter agreements with other school districts.

Saxton mentioned the resignation and transfer of staff members that involved the transportation department. He said with Market Street closing and the move of the fourth grade to Center, the bus routes were all changing to meet the new set up.
