Author gives history of Strouss' Department Store

March 6, 2019
The Town Crier
Tom Welsh, local author and Austintown Rotarian, gave his fellow members a synopsis of the most famous department store in the Youngstown area in his Feb. 25 speech. Welsh showed how the store rose to be a retail leader in both the city and its suburbs and other towns, and how the family cast its influence over so much of retail marketing sector.  Customer service and special sales were a great part of their success, which lasted until the downtown landmark store closed in 1986, when mall and plaza stores took over the battle for customer dollars.
