Canfield girls basketball standout, senior Serena Sammarone, reached a milestone on Feb. 2 during a home game against Ashtabula Lakeside. Serena put her 1,000th career point on the scoreboard as the Lady Cards went on to beat Lakeside 80-30.

Canfield athletic director Greg Cooper said she joins a select group in the CHS record book.

"Records readily available have Serena as the 11th Canfield girls' player to have reached the 1000 points scored in a career milestone," he said.

Canfield senior Serena Sammarone sinks the big one on Feb. 2 by reaching the 1,000-point mark in her high school career.

Serena will be a four-year letter-winner in basketball and has earned All-American Conference first team all-star honors and was the AAC Red Division "Player of the Year" last year. She is as good in the classroom carrying a GPA of 3.9. She has committed to attend Findley University to continue her basketball career.

According to Canfield head coach Matt Reel, Serena has worked very hard at being the best she can be.

"I have coached Serena all four years of her high school career," Reel said. "She is and has been the leader of our team for quite a while. It takes a combination of luck (no major injuries), ability, and playing many varsity games to reach 1000 points. We consistently play a demanding schedule so there are few games against inferior opponents when players can pile up points. Serena has spent many hours honing her skills and has worked very hard for all that she has achieved. Serena is one of the most competitive people you will ever meet."
