Celebrate Poland kicks of new year with a fundraiser

The Celebrate Poland Committee is ready for its "Breakfast, Baskets and More" event on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 a.m. in the Poland Seminary High School cafeteria. The event will raise funds for this year's Celebrate Poland event in June.

"I would love to see us raise $3000.00 this year," said Committee President Cindy Best.

The event will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, pastries, and drinks by donation. In addition to the opportunity to bid on many valuable baskets there is a chance to win a 50 inch Smart TV donated by Anthony Traficanti.

"We are so excited that Mr. Traficanti stepped up and I must say without hesitation to support Celebrate Poland with such a wonderful donation," Best said. "He has always supported us, but this goes to another level and is much appreciated."

The breakfast is Celebrate Poland's only fundraiser throughout the year. There will be letters sent out for donations and sponsorship opportunities for businesses and the public, which are a new way to support the event that was started last year. It helps raise the funds needed to put on such a large community event.

"Last year it cost just under $34,000," Best said. "We had a few unexpected expenses, mostly due to changes by the state. Those changes cost us a few thousand dollars. There is so much that goes into planning an event like this that the public is just not aware of. This year we are starting out with less money than we would like so it is very important for the community to support us by not only coming to the breakfast, buying a raffle ticket, but also by sending in a donation or logging onto our website and using the Paypal button to donate. Just think if everyone donated even $5. we could raise a lot of money for the event. Unfortunately, this year we are faced with another big expense with the electrical service. We don't have the estimate yet, but I am more than a little nervous about it."

As in prior years, the Celebrate Poland Committee is always looking at adding something new and giving residents free venues to enjoy.

"Each year we try to add something new, but more importantly we try to give the residents of Poland and the surrounding areas more for their money," Best said. "We try very hard to raise enough money to operate and offer as much free family fun as possible. Last year, not only did we have pony rides for free but we added a free petting zoo too. We would love to obtain a sponsorship this year for the Ferris wheel so the kids could ride for free. We truly do spend a lot of time and have many discussions on how we can give more for less money to the families that enjoy our event."

She said the breakfast will have raffle tickets being sold at $5 for six tickets. The tickets can be purchase in advance from any committee member or by calling 330-651-2999. Tickets can also be purchased at the door with all proceeds going toward the non-profit Celebrate Poland community event to be held on June 28 and 29, 2019. Winners of the raffle need not be present. The breakfast is by donation.
