Austintown Board of Ed organizes for 2019

The Austintown Board of Education met on Jan. 4 to get organized for the new calendar year. Don Sherwood was elected to continue as board president and Robin Krempasky was elected as vice president. Both took the oath of office from board treasurer Ryan Ghizzoni.

Krempasky was also appointed to serve as Student Achievement Liaison with the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) and Kathy Mock was appointed as Legislative Liaison with the OSBA.

With the 2019 positions filled, the board turned to other business which included a resolution to permit a list of 501.C3 non-profit booster organizations to use the school's logo and name. The listed organizations would be required to provide annual financial reports, but would not be overseen by the board of education.

The following were accepted booster organizations for 2019: Band Parents, Baseball Boosters, Boys Basketball Boosters, Boys Soccer Boosters, Choir Parents, Falcon Swim Team Boosters, Fast Pitch Boosters, Fitch Bowling Boosters, Girls Basketball Boosters, Girls Soccer Boosters, Hall of Fame, Girls Volleyball Boosters, Mat Boosters, Wrestling Boosters, Touchdown Club, Football Parents, Cross Country Boosters, Track Boosters, Austintown Robotics Boosters, and Cheerleader Boosters.

In other business:

The board approved the Superintendent to accept resignations and hire staff when the need arises between regular meetings of the Board of Education.

As recommended by law, the board approved a service fund in the amount of $4,000 that could be used to make reimbursements to members of the board for expenses incurred in their performance outside the district.

The board set the next regular meeting for Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. at AMS. Remaining 2019 regular meetings were approved for the third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. at AMS.
