Local woman named to AMVETS office

At AMVETS (American Veterans) 74th annual convention in Orlando, Florida, members elected the officers for 2018-2019. The new commander is Rege Riley of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 1st Vice Commander of membership is Jan Brown of Boardman, Ohio; 2nd National Vice Commander of programs is Greg Heun of Louisville, Kentucky and 3rd Vice Commander of Legislative activities is Don McLean of Massachusetts. Other officers include Judge Advocate Cliff Fitzsimmons of Tennessee, Finance Officer Ron Dillion of Georgia, Provost Marshall Art Major of Mansfield, Ohio and Chaplin Gary Sallade of Chillocothe, OH. Their term begins on Sept. 1, 2018.

Keynote speaker was newly confirmed Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilke. On Wednesday of the convention, a Memorandum of Agreement of signed between the VA and AMVETS to further their ongoing efforts to eliminate risk factors that contribute to veteran suicide and establish programs and practices that offer at-risk veterans the interventions necessary to avert potential suicide risk.

AMVETS , which is also known as American Veterans, is the most inclusive Congressional-chartered veterans service organization open to representing 20 million veterans and their families. The AMVETS organization has more than 250,000 members nationwide. AMVETS exists to enhance the quality of life for all veterans and their families and survivors. Membership is open to anyone who honorably served or is currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces including the national Guard and Reserves.
