Holy Family seventh grader Alex LaPlante won the St. Stanislaus Catholic War Veterans High Honor award for his "What the American Flag Means to Me" essay contest, and first place in the Department of Ohio Catholic War Veteran's contest. On winning the award, Alex said, "When I won the award given by the Catholic War Veterans for my essay on the American flag, I was very surprised. I didn't think my essay was all that good. But apparently the judges liked it because they said I wrote it from the heart. I was honored to get the High Honor Award from the local CWV Saint Stanislaus post 1222 as well as a first place award from the state of Ohio. It means so much to me to make my family, which is full of veterans, very proud!"
