A new garden club has blossomed at Market Street Elementary School. It's called Sprouting Spartans and students will meet every Wednesday after school during the spring.

"We are teaching these third and fourth graders how to grow vegetables and flowers, and you can see the excitement when they get their hands in the dirt and work with the plants," said Food Service Supervisor Natalie Winkle.

The Sprouting Spartans will have the club's first plant sale on Wednesday, May 23, from 2:45 until 4:15 at the school's greenhouse.

"We are hoping to make the club self sufficient, and that through the plant sale we can raise funds for next year's expenses such as soil, seeds and greenhouse items," said Winkle.
