Residents attend K-9 appreciation event

A four-legged K-9 officer goes into danger right alongside the handler / officer when a call comes in for help. It puts the dog in the same kind of danger and it, too, needs protection.

That was the case for Canfield's new K-9 officer, Rocky. He joined the department this year and the Canfield community came together to raise over $3,000 to provide him with a bulletproof vest and other needed supplies.

"The kids and parents of our community came together to help our K-9," said police Chief Chuck Colucci. "This is our way of saying thanks."

The Fiorenza family attended a Canfield police community gathering at the police station off Lisbon Street on Aug. 26, where they were given Rubbermaid products to help with back-to-school lunches. The event was a way of saying thanks to the parents and family members who helped raise funds to buy Canfield’s new K-9 Officer, Rocky, a vest and supplies. The department was able to get a donation of Rubbermaid products that would help kids with their lunches, snacks and drinks as they head back to school this month.

On top of the Rubbermaid products, the department had 20 stuffed Rocky dolls that were given away in a special drawing. Every kid attending the event got a ticket and instantly knew if they won the stuffed animal.

"It was a great turnout," Colucci said, "and a great way to say thanks."
