Poland Relay continues the push to meet its goal for 2017

When July comes around the Relay for Life season is winding down. Relay events from around Mahoning County still have until the end of August to meet the projected goal for the year. The Poland Relay for Life is one of the final events in the area, which means less time to meet the goal.

The Poland Relay for Life posted a great 2017 season that climaxed with the annual event at Poland High School on June 23 and 24. Last year, the Poland Relay hit the goal of $53,000. This year's goal was $55,000, and at the close of the event, the teams had raised $54,102.64.

"We've never been in this position before," said Poland Relay spokesperson Holly Marshall. "We've either made our goal by the date of our relay event, or were too far off to make it by Aug 31."

All the participating teams have until Aug 31 to reach their goal, so a few fundraisers in the Poland area are being planned for July and August.

"We will be doing a little bit of everything including teams raising money and a couple of group events," Marshall said. "We hope to have the group fundraising events finalized by July 21."

Anyone wanting to help the Poland Relay for Life reach this goal can donate online at , or by mailing a personal check to: The American Cancer Society, Attention Poland Relay for Life, 525 N. Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406. To enable the proper crediting, donors are asked to write Poland Relay for Life on the check memo line. All donations are tax deductible.

In addition to the summer fundraisers, The Poland Relay for Life is making big plans for next year's event. The 2018 theme will be "Luau for Life". This celebration of life, sand and surf will feature a luau for the survivors and caregivers, and tropical activities throughout the day. Every team will select a tropical island as their own inspiration. Anyone wishing to start a team in time for next year's tropical event should contact Kim Deemer at 330-423-8941.
