Photo special to the Town Crier
The Austintown Historical Society recently received the Mahoning Valley Historical Society's 2014 Historic Preservation Directors Award of Achievement at its 139th annual meeting and 10th annual Historic Preservation Awards meeting. The dinner meeting was held at The Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center on West Federal Street in Youngstown. The Austintown Historical Society submitted photos of the Austin Log Cabin taken in 1973 when the cabin was discovered, during the restoration period and how it looks today.
Also, information was given about naming the cabin The Austin Log Cabin to honor Calvin Austin, whom Austintown is named after.
Pictured from left are H. William Larson, executive director of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society; president of the Austintown Historical Society Joyce Pogany, accepting the award; and William J. Cleary Jr., M.D., president of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.
