The Canfield speech and debate team competed at the 2014 National Speech and Debate Association's national tournament in Overland Park, Kan., during the week of June 16.
This tournament saw competition from over 4,000 students representing over 1,100 schools throughout the United States.
Canfield qualified 10 students to the National Speech and Debate Tournament, the most in its history.

Competing in the National Speech and Debate Association's national tournament were Canfield students, in front, Arjun Subramanyam, Rayann Atway, Julie Gemmel and Stephen Gant, and in back, Maleck Saleh, Cameron Maras, Alec Kan, Michael Stefanick, Will Brown and Kareem Soliman.
They were seniors Julie Gemmel and Rayann Atway, public forum debate; seniors Will Brown and Kareem Soliman, public forum debate; juniors Stephen Gant and Maleck Saleh, public forum debate; senior Arjun Subramanyam, United States extemp; freshman Michael Stefanick, drama; sophormore Alec Kan, student congress; junior Cameron Maras, international extemp.
Additionally, the following team members earned recognition at the national tournament for exceptional performance in their events: Stephen Gant and Maleck Saleh, Top 32 in public forum debate; and Arjun Subramanyam, Top 60 in United States extemp.
The Canfield speech and debate team is under the direction of Jeremy Hamilton, with assistants Caitlin Beckett, Carole Bogar, Terri Fleming, Sami Nesnidol, Tim Nesnidol and Jacob Schriner-Briggs helping guide this year's team of 84 students.
