Run for Mooney graduate set for Saturday

July 24, 2014
The Town Crier

On Dec. 26, 2013, Caitlin Yager tragically died in an automobile accident. Caitlin was a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School and a student at Marietta College.

Caitlin, a runner on the Marietta Cross Country team, as well as a culture, religion and history major, was looking forward to studying abroad in Russia in the spring. She then planned on attending law school.

Mike and Greg Delost along with Caitlin's brother, Matt, wanted to create a fitting celebration of Caitlin's life and spirit. Caitlin was studying diverse cultures and religions in order to understand our world better. It was her desire to improve our world and to help everyone she met along the way.

This celebration of Caitlin's life will be held on Saturday with the Inaugural ''Run for Caitlin'' -- a unique 8K race and 3K fun walk / run with a purpose.

The 8k entry fee is $25 and the 3K entry fee is $15 with a special 8K team rate of five to seven runners at $20 per runner. Race entry fee covers a dry-fit commemorative T-shirt, chances at gift baskets, age group awards and refreshments.

The race start and finish will be at Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive, Canfield. The 8K will have chip timing courtesy of Second Sole with awards given to the overall male and female winners in the 8K, as well as age group awards. A basket raffle is also planned.

Race registration forms and sponsor forms can be downloaded at http//runforcaitlin.org.

All proceeds of this event will benefit a nonprofit corporation in Ohio that will award scholarships for grade school students who would like to attend Cardinal Mooney High School.

Caitlin's parents, Richard and Carol Yager, and their son, Matt, invite everyone to celebrate the life and memory of their daughter by participating in the event. There would be no greater gift for the Yagers than to provide young students an opportunity to have a successful and rewarding life.
