Austintown Lions Club has busy start to summer events

July 10, 2014
The Town Crier

The Austintown Lions Club has been quite busy during the month of June starting with their Candy Day on June 7 at the Austintown Wal-Mart. The Lions Club members gave out assorted mints while accepting donations for their many causes. Some of those causes include scholarships, eyeglasses and exams for the needy, and contributions to many community assistances and Lions programs, including Pilot Dogs, their Eye Care Foundation, Eye Research and many others.

Lion Bob Melcher chaired the Candy Day event on June 14. The Austintown Lions Club actually ''went to the dogs'' as they sponsored their first annual Rabies Vaccine Clinic at the Christy Armory in Austintown.

Dr. Erik Dougherty, from the Sunny Ridge Veterinary Clinic in Rogers, served as the attending veterinarian. The Lions were busy registering around 200 dogs and cats receiving not only rabies shots but many other vaccinations.
