Chipping in for a great celebration

July 10, 2014
By J.T. Whitehouse , The Town Crier

On June 2, a special presentation was made at the first Fourth of July week car show at Traxx Lounge on New Road. Ed and Diane Reese and Robert Rupeka, all from Briarfield Health Care Centers, presented the township with a check for $10,000 to help put on a great fireworks display at Township Park.

Ed Reese currently serves as CEO of Briarfield, while his wife, Diane, serves as president. Reese said he has been in the health care industry for a long time in the Austintown area.

''I've been here for 30 years,'' he said. ''The Austintown community has been good to us, and when we heard they wanted to bring back the fireworks, we wanted to help make that happen.''

The check went towards the fireworks and festivities at the park on July 3. Also in attendance for the presentation, made during the car show at Traxx Lounge, were trustees Ken Carano, left, and trustee Jim Davis and Mark Cole, right, from Austintown Generational Enrichment Corp.

Last year, Briarfield gave $8,000 to help with the fireworks. This year, Reese decided to up that amount as the event's main sponsor.

''This is what makes the [fireworks] show happen,'' said Austintown Trustee Jim Davis. ''Without these funds, the show would not go on. To have Ed and Diane step up is remarkable.''
