Lori Shandor of New Middletown and Danny Catullo of Poland have been named co-chairs of the levy campaign for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. The library is planning a levy on the November ballot and will hold campaign activities and fundraisers over the next few months. Carlton Sears, former library director, will serve as treasurer for the levy committee.
Library executive director Heidi Daniel was pleased that Shandor, Catullo and Sears agreed to be a part of the levy campaign.
''All of these individuals are valuable members of our community who take an active interest in projects that benefit residents of our area. I was aware of their love of libraries and felt they would be naturals at promoting all of the wonderful materials and services our library system offers. We love that they love their library and were pleased that they agreed to serve.''
Sears stepped down as library director two years ago, but remains supportive of PLYMC. He is currently a coach with the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation.
Sears noted that, ''The Mahoning County library is recognized nationally as among the most forward thinking and soundly run of libraries. Being the levy campaign treasurer is a privilege that allows me to help secure the future for an organization in that truly thinks community first.''
Daniel and communications / public relations director Janet Loew will work with the Farris Marketing Agency of Boardman on getting important information about the levy out to the public as part of the levy campaign.
''As a kid, the library was a sanctuary for me,'' said George Farris, CEO of Farris Marketing. ''I spent many hours there. And today, the library is a lot more than books. The whole family benefits from its programs. Our community holds the library above most institutions - and so do I. That's why Farris Marketing is proud to be involved with the library's levy.''
Library levy campaigns are paid for by donations and private funding; no public funding is used. A political action committee has been established for this levy campaign: Citizens Committee for the Library Levy, 4845 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
