The Canfield High School's speech and debate team competed at the 2014 NCFL Grand National Tournament in Chicago from May 24 to 25. This tournament featured competition from schools throughout the country, with over 2,800 students participating. Canfield had five students advance to this competition, senior Richie Abel, extemp; junior Samantha Armstrong, oral interpretation of literature; senior Dominique Favre, dramatic performance; senior Arjun Subramanyam, extemp; and senior Gary Zamary, original oratory.

Additionally, Richie Abel received recognition for being an octa-finalist in extemp, placing him among the Top 48 out of 249 competitors in that event.

The Canfield speech and debate team has finished in the Top 10 in Ohio for six consecutive seasons and qualified a team-record nine students to compete at the 2014 NSDA National Tournament in Kansas.
