Poland schools to get major paving this summer

Blacktop will be the top priority over the summer for Poland Local Schools. Plans are to finish the stadium parking lot and take care of some much needed patching projects.

District Treasurer Don Stanovcak opened bids last week for the parking lot at the high school sports stadium. He said it was never completed due to budget restraints.

''When we renovated the stadium, two inches of blacktop was laid down,'' he said. ''It needed four inches to make it complete, but we needed time for the base to settle.''

It has been five years since the two inches were laid in, and now, with the passage of the school levy, the district can complete the work.

Stanovcak said over the summer months, the remaining two inches will be laid down and will guarantee good performance over future years.

Also included in the work list this summer will be patching for all the school parking lots.

''All the parking lots need work from damage caused by the extreme winter,'' Stanovcak said.

This year's budget has included $6,000 to make those repairs in time for the opening of the schools this fall.

As for the stadium paving project, the bids will be checked and certified, and will then be presented at the June board meeting.
