Poland Union Elementary School annually has a special Fun Day on the last day of school that celebrates the end of the school year. The program put on by the Union PTO will be on June 10, even though it is not the last day this year.
''June 12 will be our last day of school because of our snow days,'' said principal Mike Masucci. ''Our Fun Day was scheduled for June 10, and we decided to keep it there.''
Part of that reason may have come from all the activities that are set ahead of time. The PTO helps bring in bounce-arounds and games the students can enjoy before breaking for summer. Masucci said they are also bringing in a sno-cone machine to help beat the heat.
One new guest to this year's Fun Day will be Jungle Terry. Masucci said he will be bringing in a bunch of wildlife the students will learn about throughout the day.
''This is the first time we have had Jungle Terry to our school,'' he said.
Masucci said the whole Fun Day program is credited to the school's PTO. Each year, the PTO raises funds and budgets the Fun Day into their schedule of events.
