Students place at English festival

Thirty-four seventh and eighth graders from Austintown Middle School attended the 36th annual Youngstown State University English Festival. The YSU English Festival is a celebration of literature hosting more than 300 schools and thousands of students. All students were required to read seven festival designated books. AMS's student coaches, Alexandra Davis, Michelle Best and Angela Yohman helped their students compete in five different categories.

Eight AMS students took home awards as follows:

Not So Trivial Pursuit: Keira Harding, second place

Renga Riot: Mikayla Gmitter, second place; Abbey Loew, first place; Kaylee Aliberti, first place

Journalism: Taylor Baer, third place

Writing Games: John Zimmerman, honorable mention; Mikayla Gmitter, third place

Impromptu Writing: Renee Seebacher, honorable mention
