Seniors spread sweet cheer to students

Marie LaCava, President of the Immaculate Heart of Mary senior citizens organization, has made a commitment to intergenerational activities.

St. Joseph and Immaculate Heart of Mary kindergarten through second grade students and SJIHM Ringers for Christ, one of two handbell choirs at the school, were invited to perform songs for and talk to IHM seniors last December. With Easter approaching, IHMs Senior Citizen Organization took time during their March luncheon to prepare treats for SJIHM students. Some of the senior citizens agreed this was making something good for the kids at SJIHM.

Referring to the 100 pounds of candy they had bagged, Adeline Sebbio said,

I hope we have enough for all the kids to enjoy, said Adeline Sebbio, referring to the 100 pounds of candy the senior citizens bagged for the students. The bags were filled and SJIHM students were full of smiles when the Easter Bunny and Flo Arndt handed out the candy on Holy Thursday.

Both the SJIHM students and IHM Seniors are looking forward to more intergenerational activities, including Read to Me, bingo partners, pen pals, art and craft projects and oral history.
