Renovation to the Stacy Pavilion's 1980s kitchen is nearing completion this week as park and road crews complete the installation of new cabinets. The improvement project will be welcomed by those renting the facilities for graduation, wedding and club parties and gatherings.
''The old cabinets didn't even have doors on them,'' said park supervisor Todd Shaffer. ''They were, in essence, just shelves.''
Shaffer said the park budget includes funds for capital improvements at the parks. Stacy Pavilion had recently had new carpeting installed as well as new tile flooring. The last step was to upgrade the kitchen.

Austintown Township Park employee Tex Martin helps complete the installations of cabinets at Stacy Pavilion in Township Park. The kitchen received a total remodel in the past several weeks to make it more user friendly for rentals.
The plan was to install new cabinetry, which township trustee Lisa Oles helped out with. She is often attending auctions for home improvement products and along with Shaffer, decided to attend the Parazino Brothers Auction in North Lima.
During the auction, Oles started bidding on a 17-piece hickory cabinet set. Shaffer said she hung in as the bidding climbed and it came down to Oles and one other lady. The bid climbed and Oles went to $2,000 and won the bid.
''She hung in there against the competition and got the set,'' Shaffer said. ''We probably saved well over $5,000 from purchasing it at a home improvement store.''
Oles said attending auctions like that requires some advance preparations.
''You have to know prices before you go to the auction if you want to get a good deal,'' Oles said.
The cabinets were delivered to Township Park a few weeks ago and work began to install them. Late last week the Kitchen sink was hooked up, leaving a little bit of countertop work to be completed. The finishing work is expected to be completed this week.
''It will probably be a $14,000 kitchen when it is done,'' Oles said.
