Poland Players to present 'Mame'
The musical ''MAME!'' is based on the life of Mame Dennis (born Marion Tanner)--the eccentric and fun loving aunt of American author Patrick Dennis--her adventures and the lessons she taught her orphaned nephew throughout the mid-1900s. Mame encouraged Patrick to be three-dimensional, to live life down to his toes, embrace the differences in others and that ''Life is a banquet, and most poor people are starving to death!'' Young Patrick was introduced to people of all walks of life, ethnicities and cultures. These colorful characters bring the story by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee to life by way of delightful music and lyrics by Jerry Herman.
Poland Players, the drama club at Poland Seminary High School, are bringing this beloved musical to the stage at 7 p.m. April 3, 4 and 5 . Over 100 students have been working on the production since the first week in January.
Starring as Mame is senior Becca Potkanowicz. Playing her nephew as a youth is freshman Michael Mastoris. Brendan Gage plays the adult Patrick. Sarah Comstock is back as Vera Charles, ''the first lady of the American theater,'' who, with Mame, perform the unforgettable ''Bosom Buddies.'' Abbey Lea is hilarious as Agnes Gooch. David Lankitus, Bryan Partika, Joe Weetman, Liborio Ricottilli, Michael Carney, Cassandra Herdman, Kaleigh Chretien, Lanina Smith, Sara O'Kane, Krista Nolfi, Emily Huggins, Connor O'Kane, Charles May and Dobbins first-grader Michael Day play supporting roles in this very talented cast.
