In June, Canfield alumna Angela Bouch will be competing for the crown in the Miss Ohio scholarship contest. The Canfield Class of 2010 graduate said she never really set out to be a beauty contestant.
''I had no knowledge of the Miss Ohio program,'' Bouch said. ''It is not a big deal in the Canfield area. I entered it after some friends told me about it.''
Bouch is in her senior year at Ohio Northern University, where she is working on a degree in management and pharmaceuticals with a focus on marketing. She keeps busy at ONU as a member of the ONU Health Care and Business Professionals organization, where she serves on the Drug Abuse Prevention committee. She also serves on the Dean's Advisory Council, which strives to better the business college through a claborative effort by administration and selected students.

Canfield High School alumna Angela Bouch will be competing this June for the title of Miss Ohio.
Since her freshman year, Bouch has served as a ''Bear Ambassador'' and provides campus tours and counselling to prospective students and their families. This past summer, she interned at Hardin County Hospice and promoted the purpose and mission of the organization by planning a community outreach event and youth grief camp, coordinating fundraising initiatives, and created media and advertising campaigns. She is also a vice president of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, where she presided as the recruitment chairperson. She was on the ONU Homecoming court in the fall of 2013.
When she entered the Miss Apple Blossom contest in the summer of 2013, she had no idea she would be wearing the crown and competing for the title of Miss Ohio this summer. She said there are many local pageants that serve as the preliminary round for the Miss Ohio title. The Miss Apple Blossom competition is the local one sponsored by Ohio Northern.
The competition last year, according to Bouch, focuses on five parts that combine for an overall score. She competed in interviews before a panel of judges, on stage questions, evening gown and swim suit competitions and talent.
''For my talent I chose dance,'' Bouch said. ''I have been dancing for 18 years. I started at age three in the Sandy B Dance School.''
Bouch choreographed her own routine for the competition and it was good enough to propel her to the crown. Along with the Miss Apple Blossom title, she also earned a scholarship.
''I got enough scholarship funds to pay for a summer internship at a hospice in Kenton, Ohio,'' she said.
Her focus right now is on graduation. She will will graduate from Ohio Northern University on Mother's Day this year. That will give her a good month to prepare for the Miss Ohio competition during the week of June 14-21.
On the local front, a lot of Canfield people will be rooting for Bouch. Canfield High School assistant principal Michael Moldovan remembers Bouch and said she is the kind of person that will do well in the competition.
''Angela Bouch is a great student academically,'' he said. ''She took honors and AP classes and graduated with a 3.945 GPA. She is very outgoing and helpful. Wonderful personality. Just a great person.''
