For the 40th consecutive year, Cardinal Mooney's speech team placed in the top 10 schools in the state in the Ohio High School Speech League tournament. The tournament was held at Wooster High School last weekend. The Mooney team, directed by Jennifer Gonda, placed fifth in the state followed by Austintown Fitch in sixth and Canfield in ninth.
Mooney's Duo Interpretation team of Jennifer Rondinelli and Johnny D'Andrea, both juniors in Canfield, won the state championship with their interpretation of ''The Boy Who Fell Into A Book.'' They were coached by Marchol Warchol, a 2010 Mooney grad.
Sophomore Frank Vennetti, of Austintown, placed second in Oratorical Interpretation using Josh Gad's ''The Punch Line.''
