Math Counts team is heading to state

Poland Middle School's MathCounts participants performed very well at YSU on Feb. 13.

The team, consisting of Tyler Berry, Sam Delatore, Ashlin Rabindra, and Kevin Rabindra came in first place out of 22 teams competing. Tyler Berry, Sam Delatore, Kevin Rabindra, and Marik Rogenski placed in the top 16 overall, putting them in the head-to-head Countdown Round competition. The team and Marik will be honored at a banquet on March 4 and will be headed to the state competition in Columbus on March 8.

Coaches Janice Hohloch and Eva Sullivan are extremely proud of their mathletes for all their hard work and dedication to math. In addition to the team, six students competed on an individual basis, Phillip Hockensmith, Mum Masaki, Rachel Mowad, Marik Rogenski, Bailey Swogger and Christina Tremonti, and four attended as alternates, Jake Bacon, Diego Calderon, Ryan O'Kane and Chase Wern.

Math Club at Poland Middle School is held from early October through March and is open to all sixth through eighth graders who wish to join. Students meet weekly before school to prepare for competitions. MathCounts consists of various rounds including the Sprint Round, Target Round, Team Round, and Countdown Round.
