The Boardman Lions Club is donating $1,000 to the Davis Family Branch YMCA on McClurg Road as a contribution to the Y's Annual Campaign.
Lions Terry Shears and Joni Blase delivered the check to Branch Manager Tom Grantonic, who explained that the YMCA mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
The donation is part of the campaign that seeks to raise $600,000 within the Youngstown YMCA association which includes the Davis Family YMCA, the Central YMCA in downtown Youngstown and Camp Fitch YMCA in North Springfield, Pennsylvania. Money raised can help give the opportunity for a Y experience for children, families and adults who are struggling financially. The Y will not turn anyone away because they cannot afford a membership or program.

''The Davis Family YMCA alone awarded over $210,000 in assistance in 2013, mostly for membership and day camp,'' Grantonic said.
Boardman Lions seek to serve the Boardman Community through many facets: their eyeglass collection program, scholarships, road maintenance, tree planting, and providing glasses and eye care to those in need of assistance. The club also does eye screening at the Canfield Fair, local schools, and at Boardman Community Day and supports the American Diabetes Association Step Out: Walk for Diabetes.
