Poland advances six at wrestling sectionals

Poland traveled to West Branch this past weekend to compete in the 2014 Sectional Tournament, where the top four wrestlers in each weight class advanced to the District finals, and Poland qualified five wrestlers to Districts and one District alternate. Poland's Mike Audi was the 170 lb. Sectional Champion, where he defeated Shane Metzgar of Salem in the finals with a 15-0 technical fall and will be going in to districts as the top ranked wrestler in the region. Dante Ginnetti was the other Poland Grappler to make it in to the championship round but fell just short and placed second losing 2-1 to West Branch's Alec Schopher in the final seconds. The next highest Bulldog Grappler to place at tournament was 138 lb. Bruno Spottleson, who finished third by defeating Ty Raybuck of Marlington 1-0, and the Dogs had two fourth place finishers, Darren Goodin 120 lb. and Anthony Audi 160 lb., along with 145 lb. Dave Esarco placing fifth as a district alternate.

The District Tournament will be at Alliance High School on Friday and Saturday, and Poland's qualifiers will be competing with the best 16 wrestlers in the region, with the top four advancing to the State Tournament in Columbus.
