Former Canfield Post trooper promoted to sergeant

Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Tony D. Stephens was promoted to the rank of sergeant by Colonel Paul A. Pride, Patrol superintendent, during a ceremony at the Patrol's Academy.

Stephens will transfer from his current assignment at the Hiram Post to serve as an assistant post commander at the Ashtabula Post.

Stephens began his patrol career in 1993 as a member of the 124th Academy class. He earned his commission in June of that year and was assigned to the Warren Post.

Throughout his career, Stephens has served at the Lisbon, Canfield and Hiram Posts. He received the Superintendent's Citation of Merit in 2000; earned the Ace Award for excellence in auto larceny enforcement; and was selected as Post Trooper of the Year in 2003.

In 2012, he was selected as the Hiram Post Trooper of the Year.
