The national letter of intent "signing ceremony" originally to be on Feb. 5 for Canfield senior football player Alec Heldreth took place on Feb.6. The event officially announced the continuation of Heldreth's athletic career as a member of the Lake Erie College football team.
Heldreth is a two-year letter-winner for coach Mike Pavlansky's Canfield Cardinals, playing as an offensive tackle and defensive end. He set a school single game sack record this past season by recording 3.5 quarterback tackles-for-a-loss in a contest. His efforts earned him team defensive lineman MVP honors and All-American Conference All-Star Second Team honors. Alec was also selected to receive his team's "Cardinal Award," given annually to a player who exemplifies all the positive attributes the program works to instill in its players.
Heldreth plans to major in criminal justice leading to a career in law enforcement. He is the son of Joseph and Kristin Heldreth.
