Poland senior Taylor Miokovic, daughter of Ron and Pam Miokovic, put her name on the dotted line on Thursday, Nov. 14 as she signed her letter of intent to continue her softball career at Eastern Illinois University. On hand were her family and friends as well as Poland coach Matt Campbell and Ohio Blast coach Ron Dennison.

Miokovic started with the Ohio Blast traveling team when she reached the eighth grade. While with that team, she quickly showcased her ability to shine on the softball field.

"She hits the ball hard," said Dennison. "She is a good listener, picks up things really quick, and understands the concept of hitting."

Poland Seminary High School senior Taylor Miokovic was joined by her parents, Ron and Pam Miokovic, brother Ryan Miokovic, and her batting coach Ron Dennison as she signed her letter of intent to continue her softball career at Eastern Illinois University next fall.

As she continued her career at Poland, she became a member of the state championship team in 2011 and earned the respect of coach Matt Campbell. The coach said he has one more season with Miokovic, which is a bittersweet final season for her.

"It is a big-time blessing that we will have her on the team for one more season," Campbell said.

After the coming season, she will have a few months to stay tuned to the sport she loves before trading her Bulldog uniform for a Panther outfit.

Miokovic said she originally was looking at Cleveland State until an unusual set of circumstances changed her mind. She had met with the Cleveland State coaching staff, which was impressed with her abilities. Earlier this year, the entire Cleveland softball staff went to Eastern Illinois and with the move came the offer to come with them on a full scholarship. That was an easy decision for Miokovic.

"They made me an offer I couldn't refuse," she said.

On the academic side, Miokovic is looking at majoring in education, counseling or a medical field. She said she is looking hard at the pharmaceutical field and said Eastern Illinois has a lot to offer.
