The Boardman Boys cross country team repeated as Federal League champions on Saturday, Oct. 12 in the program's final race as league members at Maize Valley Farm in Hartville. The Spartans were led by senior Mark Hadley who placed first overall in a record-breaking time of 15:06 and was selected Athlete of the Year by the coaches of the league for a record third straight season.
Right behind Hadley was classmate Alan Burns who earned FirstTeam All Federal League honors for his second place finish out of 224 varsity and junior varsity runners in a personal best time of 15:54. He was followed by sophomore Nathan Hadley in eighth place overall in a career best time of 16:13, Hadley also was selected First Team All Federal League. All three runners were named First Team All Federal League for the second straight season.
Senior Justin Maroni ran a career best time of 16:16 finishing 10th overall and was named Second Team All Federal League. Senior Jacob Kelleck was chosen Honorable Mention All Federal League for his 17th place finish in a personal best time of 16:35.

Alan Burns was named to the Federal League First Team after the Spartans repeated as Federal League champions over the weekend in Hartville.
"We now have five of the top 21 all time best runners in school history on this year's team," said Boardman head coach John Phillips, who was named Federal League Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
"This senior class has established themselves as the greatest class in our programs history and they are not done yet," Phillips said.
Setting new personal bests on Saturday were seniors Mark Hadley, Burns, Maroni, Kelleck, Trevor Leyden at 17:32, Ryan McKeown at 17:59, Sean Pregi at 18:56, Carmen Marinucci at 19:35, and Kevin McNally at 20:06. Junior Nick Long earned a new career bests at 17:20. Sophomores setting new personal records were Nathan Hadley, Ethan Schwendeman at 17:59 and Tyler Kellam at 19:43. Every Boardman freshman set a new career best at the Federal League Championship; they are Nathaniel Ams at 18:05, Nick DiGiacomo at 19:17, Dom Eorio at 19:12, Josh Jenkins at 20:16, Matt Maroni at 19:15, and Jack Swavel at 19:46. Also setting a new career best was sophomore Adam Deeley at 17:28. That performance earned the Spartan this weeks BW-3 Runner of the Week award.
Next up for the Spartans is this Saturday's Division I District Championship at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Boardman will need to finish in the top four spots as a team in order to advance to the Regional Championship held at the Spartans home course. Boardman will be battling their Chardon, Twinsburg, Solon, Canfield, Howland, Austintown Fitch, Kenston, and Warren Harding among others. The race will begin at 2:50 p.m.
