Annual 'pink' game a win for all

Boardman (11-9) defeated Austintown (14-7) in three straight sets Saturday, 25-16, 25-15, 27-25, in the teams' annual Volley for a Cure event. The schools came together to promote cancer awareness and raise close to $4,000 for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

This season, funds were raised through the teams selling 500 T-shirts, a bake sale, and raffling off several gift baskets. Between varsity matches, attendees were given the opportunity to donate $1 for three tries to serve a volleyball over the net. They were awarded a prize if their serve landed on designated areas on the other side of the court.

Fitch leaders were Katarina Lewis with 11 digs and seven assists, Alex Connors with three aces and Sydney Greenwood had two blocks.
