The 140-lb Cardinals remained unbeaten by defeating the Austintown Colts on Sunday, Sept. 8. The Colts scored first on a pass play and converted their PAT to go up 8-0 early in the first quarter. On the ensuing series, Ethan Fletcher scored a 15-yard touchdown on a run to the corner of the end zone. Nick Crawford caught the two-point conversion from Santino Marucci.
In the second quarter, Fletcher again ran six yards for his second TD and Crawford ran for the PAT making it 16-8 Cardinals. The Colts took over and scored their second touchdown on a long run but failed to convert the extra point, making it 16-14 Cards at the half.
In the second half, the Cards dominated on defense and the Colts were unable to find the end zone. Marucci scored on a 61-yard run and threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Fletcher with Crawford converting one extra point but missing the other to end the game at 30-14 Cardinals. Marucci was 3-for-7 for 90 yards with one touchdown and one interception passing and ran five times for 73 yards. Fletcher had eight carries for 75 yards and three TDs with one reception for 52 yards.
The Cardinals offensive line of David Noday, David Reinhart, Peyton Kostelic, Michael Gonda fought hard led by Gavin Tareshawty and Seth Hull.
