Canfield schools off to good start

September 20, 2013
The Town Crier

Dear Editor,

Our district's first week with youngsters went well. I would like to take a moment to thank the entire staff for their preparation - it paid off. The students and staff have already begun working 100 percent towards a successful 2013-14 school year.

Thank you for giving the education of your student a very high priority at home this year. Whether you are a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or just a friend of a school age youngster, your role is a very important one. We, in Canfield, deeply appreciate the trust you place in our schools and district personnel every day. We want you to know that your child's success in school and your satisfaction with our schools matter to us.

We also appreciate that you are your child's first and most important teacher. You can give your child a great advantage in school by providing a quiet place at home to study without disruption and a well-lighted place to do homework, read and write. It makes sense to turn off the TV until homework is done, and then limit viewing. Students who watch less TV do better than students who watch TV for more than two hours a day. Instead, you can spend some of that time together reading interesting books, articles, listening to your child read to you, and enjoying discussion on what you have read. These activities show that reading is important to you.

In addition we would like to keep you informed of current events in our schools. Last spring, Canfield Local School District staff worked collaboratively with the community to develop the District Strategic Plan. The committee has identified a great need to market the schools and engage the community, as well as showcase what is happening in Canfield Local Schools. You can expect weekly correspondence from the committee, updating the community on what is happening within the schools, as it pertains to the goals outlined in the strategic plan and how it impacts our youth. If you would like to receive the weekly e-newsletter, please email dpacifico@canfieldschools.net, subject line e-newsletter, to be added to the list.

Have a wonderful year of learning and rememberIt's a great time to be a Cardinal!!!

Alex G. Geordan, superintendent
