Last Wednesday, the Cards took on Niles at Duck Creek in the first conference match of the year and walked away with a 160-191 win. Carano shot a 34, Leone had a 41, Vrabel had a 42, Loomis and Mike Pacifico each had a 43, and Matt Popovich had a 45.

Canfield golf coach John Metzinger said it was a good start to the season and he feels the team will be strong competitors this year.

"Our top eight kids are all back from last year's team," the coach said. "They are all consistent players and they shoot good numbers."

The varsity team is comprised of Carano, Letscher, Leone, Loomis, Vrabel, Pacifico, Popovich, and Isaiah Pouliot. The junior varsity team is made up of Cooper Johnson, Kyle Ring, Zack Bernat, Ben Shoman, Lex Prindle, and Paul Whitehead.

Last year, the varsity team ended up third in the conference. They shot a 317 in sectionals and just missed qualifying for districts.

"Our goal this year is to qualify out of sectionals," Metzinger said. "We are also looking for good things out of Carano for the season. He has a very good opportunity to qualify for the state tournament."

Carano is a four-year letter winner and is the senior leader of the team.
