The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County's building and sites committee met on Thursday, Aug. 8 to take the first steps toward building a new library in Canfield.
"The meeting was to review proposals from architects who are hoping to be chosen for the job," said Janet Loew, communications and public relations director for the library. "No drawings were submitted. This process is only to choose the architect."
The committee went over proposals from 10 different architectural firms. It is the committee's task to select the best one and make a recommendation to the library's full board of trustees, who will make the final decision on which firm to hire.
The committee made no decision last week, but decided to continue the process at a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Austintown Library.
Loew said the library already owns the properties on either side of the present building in Canfield, as well as some property to the rear of the library. She said once the architect has been chosen, the work will get under way and construction could begin in 2014.
