Rain hampered their rush toward the Central Division title, but the Canfield girls softball team didn't let a downpour dash their hopes.
After beginning the championship game against Portage, Mich., on Wednesday, Aug. 7, the team was tied with no score and a storm ended the game.
Coming back on Thursday, the teams fought through eight innings of play trying to break a one-run tie when Maddy Johns knocked in Amelia Manenti to win the championship and keep the team undefeated at 40-0.
The 13- and 14-year-old Canfield girls softball team begins play in the Junior Little League World Series on Sunday, Aug. 11 against Canada in Kirkland, Wash.
The team now heads to Kirkland, Wash., to begin play in the Junior League Softball World Series. Their first game begins at 9 a.m. Sunday against Canada. They are managed by Kerry Durkin with coaches Tony Sammarco, Joe Lambert, and Gina Mancini.
