The Canfield Board of Education has approved a new concession stand for the Cardinal football field as well as letting the Gridiron Club operate it this fall.
Following an executive session on Thursday, the board returned to announce the new concession plans.
"The Gridiron Club will supply all the material and construction," said Superintendent Alex Geordan.
The proposed new stand will be built to the south of the existing home-side stand. Geordan said the present concession stand will remain in operation until the new one is up and running.
The cost of the new stand is around $60,000, which is being donated by a local family.
As for the proceeds from the concession, Geordan said it would be divided among the Band Boosters and the Gridiron Club. The Band Boosters have operated the concession for years and the Gridiron Club members didn't want to take funds away from them.
Geordan said it is nice to see two support groups working together to help each other.
The new concession building will be larger and will have better capabilities for a wider variety of food items than the present one.
Geordan said the new structure can be started as soon as possible as long as all the proper permits and inspections are in place.
"We want to make sure it is done right," Geordan said.
