CHS funny man earns 11th in nation

In their best performance in team history, the Canfield speech and debate team sent five to the 2013 National Forensic League National Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., during the week of June 17. The tournament saw competition from more than 3,000 students representing 967 schools.

In Humorous Interpretation, senior Tim Nesnidol finished in 11th place out of more than 240 entries. This caps an outstanding career for Nesnidol, who had finished in the Top 60 at nationals as a sophomore and in the Top 30 at nationals as a junior, all in Humorous Interpretation.

In Dramatic Interpretation, senior Nathan Pecchia finished in the top 60 out of more than 250 entries. This caps a tremendous career for Nathan, who was state champion as a senior and who finished in the Top 30 at nationals in a different event Duo Interpretation as a sophomore.

Canfield High School's Tim Nesnidol ended up 11th in the nation in Humorous Interpretation after competing in the 2013 National Forensic League tournament.

In Public Forum Debate, the team of Julie Gemmel and Rayann Atway, both juniors, advanced to elimination rounds by having a 10-2 record in preliminary competition. They finished among the top 97 Public Forum Debate teams, out of more than 270 entries. This was their first qualification to the national tournament.

Additionally, junior Dominique Favre competed in Humorous Interpretation, in her first qualification to the national tournament. Though she did not advance to the top 60, she represented Canfield well at the national tournament, and she was a state finalist, earning seventh place in Ohio this year.

The 2012-2013 Canfield speech and debate team was under the direction of Jeremy Hamilton. Assistant coaches for the team were Sami Nesnidol, Susan Schiraldi, Jacob Schriner-Briggs, Jillian Smith, and Janet Vagas.
