The Poland High School Athletic Department hosted a dual signing on Friday for two members of this year's football team. Seniors Alex Hubbell and A.J. Herdman signed their letters of intent to continue their football careers in college this fall.

Herdman started playing football with the Poland Little Bulldogs at age eight. He stayed with it right into high school, never missing a beat. On Friday, he signed with Baldwin Wallace College. He said he is attending on an academic scholarship and plans to major in computer science.

"Baldwin Wallace just felt like home," he said about his choice. "They have a strong football program too."

Signing their letters of intent to continue their football careers on a collegiate level last week were A.J. Herdman, left, with his grandfather, Alex Massie, and standing, mother, Diane Herdman and sister Cassandra, and on right Alex Hubbell and his mother Kathy Hubbell.

Hubbell got his gridiron connection later in life. He said he started playing in the ninth grade.

Hubbell signed to continue his football career at Mount Union College this fall, but is still undecided on a major.

"I like Mount Union," he said. "My sister goes there and it feels like home, plus my mom can come and watch me play."

Coach Mark Brungard said both Hubbell and Herdman are team players and are very hard-working individuals.

"We are sending Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace two kids who love the game of football," Brungard said. "They will do well and fill whatever positions they are chosen to play. They will each represent Poland very well."
